OIL HEAT Is the CADILLAC OF
HEATING SYSTEMS and you should be congratulation yourself for
purchasing a home equipped with it. If you have not had oil
heat before you may not be aware of all the advantages to heating
with oil.
OIL COSTS LESS: The price of a gallon of heating oil
has remained about the same for the past 2 decades which means
that the real cost has significantly declined, unlike gas and
electricity which continue to increase in price. Also, oil-fired
equipment is more efficient than gas-fired equipment. The 1987
Federal Appliance Efficiency Standards Act requires oil burner
efficiency to be at least 80% while gas burners are only required to be
75% efficient. Oil has 1.4 times more BTUs than gas, which means
you must burn 1.4 times as much gas to get the same amount of heat.
OIL FURNACES ARE THE BEST IN THE INDUSTRY. Not only is
oil-fired equipment more efficient than gas-fired, but it also lasts 2
to 3 times as long. We work on furnaces every day that are 40
years old and older. Do you have anything else in your home that
is 40 years old? Gas furnaces are generally expected to last 12 -
15 years.
SAFETY: There is no comparison in the safety records of oil
and gas. Oil furnaces are not explosive and they produce
negligible amounts of carbon monoxide. Oil heat is by far the
safest way to heat your home.
INDEPENDENCE: You are not reliant on the gas company
distribution system to deliver fuel to you. You never need to fear
that the lines will 'Loose pressure during peak usage, i.e. the coldest
weather. Also you can change oil companies whenever you want,
while if you have gas you have no choice. SO IF GAS IS NOT CHEAPER
AND THE EQUIPMENT IS NOT BETTER OR SAFER THEN WHY DO PEOPLE CONVERT TO
GAS?
ADVERTISING -
ADVERTISING - ADVERTISING
The gas company appears to
have a virtually unlimited advertising budget. The essence of
their advertising strategy in that good people who love their families
heat with gas. But if you listen closely to what they are saying
you will find that they never compare their products to oil or oil
equipment, but instead compare new and old equipment, an assertion with
which we agree. The technology available 40 years ago was not
nearly as advanced as the technology available today and everyone who
replaces a 40 year old furnace is happy with their new equipment,
regardless of the fuel used to fire it. However, the people
replacing old oil furnaces with new oil furnaces are buying safety,
independence, and a furnace that will probably be lasting them for the
rest of their lives.
